Mutsu Recyclable Fuel Storage Center
Mutsu Recyclable Fuel Storage Center is a dry storage facility operated by Recyclable-Fuel Storage Company in Japan. It has a capacity of 3,000 tHM as of 2024.
Japan's first centralised store away from a reactor site, in Aomori prefecture, receiving fuel from late 2024 after a safety agreement with Mutsu city and the prefecture that August. It exists because Rokkasho has never operated: fuel that was meant to be reprocessed has to go somewhere, and reactor pools were filling. The name is a statement of policy rather than a description, since nothing here is being recycled.
